Resorts World New York City has finally started work on the second phase of its US$5.5 billion integrated-resort expansion, which officially continues one of the world’s largest casino development projects currently underway.
The work began on the 22nd of July, 2026, and this came less than three months after Resorts World opened its expanded live-dealer casino. Phase two is set to include a new 400-room hotel tower which will connect to the existing Hyatt Regency, and a further 1,200 rooms operating under Genting’s luxury Crockfords brand.
The plans also include a 7,000-seat multipurpose arena, a central plaza, a new parking garage and the Kenny “The Jet” Sports and Media Complex, with Resorts World stating that the sports facility will open three years earlier than originally planned – a pretty significant improvement on the original timeline.
Big Plans – and Big Opportunities
Once completed, the project as a whole is expected to add around two million square feet of gaming, dining, retail, convention and entertainment space to the existing one-million-square-foot property. Resorts World also expects the full development will support 10,000 jobs, including an estimated 5,000 unionised construction roles.
On the 21st of July, 1,400 new pokies were unveiled, bringing the total property count to almost 4,000! There are also over 240 live dealer games, and this is all alongside its existing hotel, restaurants, bars, and event-based facilities.
According to the operator, they paid $170 million in casino taxes and horse racing support during just the first 12 weeks of live table operations. They’re expecting those figures to increase as more pokies and table games become available. The long-term forecasts, however, do depend on visitor numbers, overall betting activity, the wider performance of the resort, which has been trickier to predict and remains very much a case of “time will tell.”
