Polymarket is not just focused on political events. There are some other types of events on which one may place a wager using the prediction market that are closer to sports betting and iGaming – namely sports futures, event-based markets, and corporate events. Of course, Polymarket is not a typical sportsbook. Nevertheless, the reasoning behind those will be known well by those familiar with odds.
One can see this perfectly illustrated by the market for 2026 NBA champion, in which case Polymarket currently has an aggregate trading volume of $415M+. In such markets, we see odds like NY Knicks’ winning chances at 78% and San Antonio Spurs’ winning chances at 22%. This means that a lot of people participate in betting on the NBA winner through predictions.
What’s particularly interesting is not the teams themselves. It’s similar to a usual market. One does not place bets via a sportsbook, but essentially prices in the answer to the same question: which team is more likely to win. This is why for those interested in betting and iGaming, this market might be worth monitoring despite being different in form and function from traditional sports betting.
Another interesting example is SpaceX IPO closing market cap market. As opposed to our previous example, this one is obviously not a sports betting platform, yet demonstrates prediction-market behavior ahead of a major public event. In this case, the market has already attracted more than $7 million worth of trading volume and allows to assess the prices for different possible levels of the SpaceX market capitalization, should the firm decide to go public before its deadline.
As of the moment of writing this article, market cap values above $1 trillion and $1.8 trillion traded at significantly higher rates compared to much more ambitious figures of $3 trillion or even $4 trillion. It looks like finance, technology excitement and betting all rolled into one. A strange mix, indeed. However, this is something you definitely do not want to miss.
For DashTickets’ audience, however, the takeaway is rather straightforward. Polymarket has joined the discussion about betting platforms, even though the project doesn’t look much like a casino or a sportsbook in disguise. For those still preferring regulated traditional options, there is always an option to check out some of the best betting apps in New Zealand.

In yet another instance that proves how big players within the gambling world now face increased pressures, Evoke has agreed to undergo a £243 million takeover.
