Interac e-Transfer
Interac e-Transfer is what we mean under Interac today for the purpose of transfering money to and from online casinos. This resembles an e-cheque, and the money isn’t transferred by email but the instructions to retrieve the funds are.
The sender goes to his online banking and chooses the recipient and the amount to send, as well as a security question and answer combo. An email or an SMS is then sent to the recipient, and if he has an account with one of the participating institutions, he’ll get the money instantly at no charge. If he has an account but not with a participating institution, then he’ll get his money within three to five days and will be charged 4 dollars.
New Zealand’s alternative to Interac: POLi
Essentially, Interac is a system that expedites the bank transfers and instead of the three-to-five business days model, it allows for instant payments. Our own POLi is the same thing, except that POLi wasn’t created by banks in New Zealand.
POLi lets you transfer money to an online casino instantly, and all you need to do is give POLi your online banking username and password. While this may seem like a security issue, it is in fact not, as there have been no incidents despite millions of transactions that take place on this system every year.
