Closure of Casino Cosmopol in Sweden
The Swedish government has proposed terminating Svenska Spel’s land-based business, Casino Cosmopol. According to a memorandum published on May 7, the casino brand can no longer fulfill its purpose.
The government cited Casino Cosmopol’s financial problems as one of the reasons for the proposal. Swedish lawmakers also noted that the closure is unlikely to affect the level of illegal gambling.
Casino Cosmopol’s problems were reflected in Svenska Spel’s 2023 report, which showed that the land-based brand was dragging down the company’s financial performance.
If the proposal is passed, Svenska Spel’s license will be amended, effectively ending its operation of land-based casinos. It will force the company to close its casino in Stockholm – the last Casino Cosmopol establishment still in operation. The closure will not only result in the loss of around 200 jobs but also significantly impact Svenska Spel’s operations.

NetBet announces partnership with IGT PlayDigital
It’s been a busy period for both companies. The announcement of the collaboration comes days after IGT announced plans to revamp its video poker offerings in Holland and a partnership with Atlantic Lottery in the Canadian market.
For NetBet, the partnership was the third the company has entered into in May, following agreements with:
Online slots provider Octoplay.
iGaming provider Gaming Realms in Denmark.
The number of partnerships NetBet has entered into in recent months indicates its desire to expand its global presence. In addition, in January, the operator announced former footballer Ray Parlour as its new brand ambassador for the UK in a bid to strengthen its betting app in the region.
