Can you make a living playing blackjack?

Blackjack has a low house edge when you use a correct strategy but still the house always wins a small amount in the long run. Can you make a living playing blackjack?

The average salary in New Zealand as of 2024 is NZ$4,420 per month so you'd need to win that amount from blackjack every month regularly in order to call it a profession. That's a little less than NZ$150 per day, or 22 days of making NZ$200 per day.

So, can you make NZ$200 on blackjack every day? Probably yes but there will be a lot of variance, very high wins and very high losses, so there should be a lot of money in the fund to get over the losing days. Also, the bets should be very high in order to make this much money.

It seems like something that's not very worthwhile. You'd have to invest a lot, and have a very large bank account, and have a perfect money management system in place, and you'd still be losing 0.50% of everything you bet. To beat blackjack you'd have to have an edge over the casino.

Casino bonuses could help, but very few can be used on table games such as blackjack.
