Chicken Road is a Crash game that takes the usual Crash formula and gives it something a bit more… interesting. Instead of simply watching a bland curve, you try to guide a cartoon chicken one step at a time through a row of tiles. Each safe step increases the multiplier, and you get to cash out after each successful crossing.

Chicken Road Slot Review

Social layer is mild but helpful. The live panels show current cash-outs and step counts, so you can see how others are playing. The extra context nudges better decisions without overwhelming you with info. If you’re entering from reels, it’s a good break from the traditional cabinet experience of the top online pokies in NZ.

Gameplay Looping

Each round begins at a stake and a difficulty pick. Click to move the chicken a step forward; for every safe tile you get, you boost your cash-out multiplier. Bail at any point and you’re paid stake × multiplier right away. You miss a step and the round ends immediately.

How It works

Every round starts with you placing your stake and choosing the difficult setting. You then tap to move the chicken forward, one tile at a time, and your cash-out multiplier increases with each successful step you manage to take. You can cash-out at any time, and doing so awards you the current multiplier times your stake. If the chicken gets run over, you lose your stake and the round ends instantly.

Now, there are four difficulty levels, and the setting you choose changes how often you fail and how fast the multiplier climbs. You can choose between Easy, Medium, Hard, and Hardcore.

Stakes and RTP

The stakes are set by the casino, and you can expect micro stakes starting from as little as NZ$0.10, and a maximum bet of up to NZ$500 – again, depending on the site you choose to play at. In terms of RTP, some versions of the game can reach as high as 97-99% – but this can change depending on how aggressively you choose to set the difficulty setting.

Mobile Review

Chicken Road is optimised for all mobile devices, and when you load-up the mobile version of the game, you’ll see clear buttons and a slightly stripped-back interface – but one that still shows you the important bits. You can easily change your difficulty setting while playing on your mobile device, and I’ve included a couple of screenshots below:

Our Verdict

Chicken Road is a Crash game with a bit of a… personality, if you like. I like the one-step-at-a-time mechanic, as it slows things down a bit compared to most Crash games we see being released today – and the fact that you can adjust the volatility level/difficulty setting is also a nice little touch. Sure, this probably won’t be a game that you’d spend hours playing, but if you want something fast, entertaining, and volatile, it’s perfect for a short session!

Gambling Addiction Warning

Gambling should only ever be viewed as a form of fun; entertainment, and never a way to make money, or for financial gain. If you find yourself chasing losses, unable to stop, or expecting to win, you may be exhibiting signs of problem gambling. If, at any point, you feel that you have a gambling problem, stop immediately, check out our Responsible Gambling page, and reach out to organisations and charities like New Zealand’s Problem Gambling Foundation. Help and support is available.
