First Impressions

9 Masks of Fire is a game from Gameburger Studios & Microgaming (now, Games Global), and the first time I loaded it up, I was caught a little off guard! Now, to me, the name implies the game is going to be kind of… heavy… but when you load it up, you’ll see five reels, classic fruit symbols, and a fairly stripped-back design. It’s good fun, and you can try a demo version of 9 Masks of Fire below:

In this 9 Masks of Fire slot review, I’m going to walk you through what to expect when playing the game for yourself. I’ll look at everything from the bonuses and features to the stats – and, without further ado, let’s get started!

Gameplay and Features

The game’s core mechanic is the Mask Scatter Pay, and landing any 3+ Masks anywhere in view triggers an instant cash prize, worth up to 2,000x depending on the number you land. There is also a Free Spins bonus that’s triggered by landing the Shield Scatter symbols on the middle three reels. Once triggered, you enter a Flaming Wheel bonus, which decides the number of starting spins and multiplier.

Betting Range and Volatility

You can bet between NZ $0.20 and NZ $60 per spin, so there’s options here for players on pretty much all budgets. It’s also a medium variance game – my favourite, as it allows for steady wins, some of which can be worth good money – but this also means that the bonuses don’t always pay great, so that’s something to keep in mind.

In terms of RTP, 9 Masks of Fire carries a theoretical RTP of 96.24 %, which is slightly above average. Interestingly, the hit frequency of the game is almost 50% – so pretty much one out of every two spins will be something – but, of course, this doesn’t mean you’ll actually hit a win, as the “win” can be worth less than your stake.

Mobile Performance

While writing this review, I played the game mostly from my iPhone – and I was using a Wifi connection. I didn’t run into any lag, delay, or freezing, and the mobile optimised version of the game is nicely designed: the spin button is placed right next to where your thumb sits naturally (provided you’re right-handed), and loading speeds were kept to a minimum, too.

I also like how quick-spin and autoplay toggles are visible right at the bottom, as this saves you from needing to open any side-settings menus just to adjust some of the game’s settings.

Our Verdict

9 Masks of Fire is a decent little Games Global release, and while it won’t be for everyone (a maximum win potential of 2,000x is a tad on the low side for 2026), it’s a nicely put together game with some clever mechanics and decent bonuses. It’s pretty cool that you have a way of actually winning the 2,000x from the base game (landing 15 Mask symbols), and the Free Spins bonus, while kind of low volatility in my experience, can pay nicely if you hit a good starting multiplier.

It won’t be for everyone, sure, but if you like this type of game – it’s definitely worth checking out for a few spins!
